Solids Loss-in-Weight-Feeder

Introduction

The Solid Loss-in-Weight Feeder is designed for continuous and accurate gravimetric feeding of solid materials in extrusion, compounding, and other continuous processing applications.

Available with single-screw or twin-screw feeding configurations, the system can be adapted to different material characteristics, from free-flowing pellets and granules to powders and other difficult-to-feed bulk solids.

Overview

The system continuously measures the weight change of the feeding unit and automatically adjusts the screw speed to maintain the preset mass flow rate.

A high-precision weighing system combined with closed-loop control of both weight and drive output provides stable and consistent feeding under changing operating conditions.

Single-screw feeders are primarily suited for free-flowing materials such as plastic pellets and granules, while twin-screw feeders provide improved feeding control for powders, fine materials, and materials with poor flowability or a tendency to bridge.

Modular construction allows the feeding section, hopper, screw assembly, and related components to be easily removed for cleaning, maintenance, or material changeover.

Key Features

  • Gravimetric Loss-in-Weight Control – Continuously monitors material weight loss and automatically adjusts feeding output to maintain the preset feed rate.
  • Single-Screw & Twin-Screw Configurations – Different screw configurations are available according to material flow characteristics and feeding requirements.
  • High Feeding Accuracy – Closed-loop control of weighing and drive output provides feeding accuracy of up to approximately ±0.5% under suitable operating conditions.
  • High-Precision Weighing System – High-performance load cells provide sensitive and stable weight measurement for continuous gravimetric control.
  • Servo Drive System – Provides stable speed control and consistent torque output across a wide operating range.
  • Anti-Bridging Hopper Design – Optimized hopper geometry helps improve material flow; agitation systems can be configured for difficult-flowing materials.
  • Independent Agitation Option – Twin-screw configurations can be equipped with independently controlled agitation to improve feeding stability for powders and cohesive materials.
  • Modular Construction – Feeding components can be easily disassembled for cleaning, maintenance, and rapid material changeover.
  • Intelligent Control System – Supports automatic operation, parameter setting, process monitoring, and integration with production control systems.
  • Industrial Communication – Optional communication interfaces support protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, and Ethernet.

Applications

The Solid Loss-in-Weight Feeder is suitable for continuous gravimetric feeding and formulation control in applications including:

  • Plastic compounding and pelletizing
  • Engineering plastics modification
  • Masterbatch production
  • Cable compound production
  • Biodegradable material processing
  • Long-fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFT)
  • Powder and mineral filler feeding
  • Additive and masterbatch dosing
  • Extrusion production lines
  • Multi-component continuous dosing systems

For pellets and free-flowing granular materials, a Single-Screw Loss-in-Weight Feeder is generally preferred for its simple structure and wide capacity range.

For powders, fine fillers, and materials with poor flowability, a Twin-Screw Loss-in-Weight Feeder is generally recommended to provide more stable material discharge and feeding consistency.
