Side Feeding Systems

Introduction

Side Feeding Systems are designed to introduce secondary materials into co-rotating twin-screw extruders at downstream processing sections, enabling precise addition of fillers, reinforcing fibers, recycled materials, and functional additives after the primary polymer has been plasticized. Compared with conventional top feeding, side feeding improves process flexibility, enhances feeding stability, and minimizes material degradation during compounding.

The Side Feeding Systems portfolio consists of two specialized product series: the SFT Side Feeder, developed for standard side feeding applications, and the VFT Forced Side Feeder, engineered for handling lightweight, fluffy, fibrous, and low-bulk-density materials. Together, these systems provide reliable, efficient, and flexible feeding solutions for a wide range of polymer compounding processes.

Overview

Modern polymer compounding often requires fillers, reinforcing agents, recycled materials, or functional additives to be introduced after the polymer melt has formed. Side Feeding Systems provide an efficient solution by feeding these materials directly into the extrusion process, improving material distribution while minimizing bridging, fiber breakage, and feeding fluctuations.

The product family includes two complementary series. The SFT Side Feeder is optimized for conventional powders, pellets, granules, and mineral fillers, offering stable and continuous material conveying for general compounding applications. The VFT Forced Side Feeder integrates forced twin-screw conveying with gas-solid separation technology, making it particularly suitable for lightweight powders, wood flour, glass fiber, carbon fiber, cellulose fiber, and other materials containing large amounts of entrapped air. Multiple models are available to match different extruder sizes and production capacities, providing flexible solutions for engineering plastics, masterbatch, recycled materials, biodegradable compounds, and specialty formulations.
